Master of Science

Biotechnology is a rapidly expanding area which involves the application of molecular biology, microbiology, genetics and biochemistry to generate products for human use.

02

Programme Objective

Biotechnology draws on several subjects at once and takes you deep into molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, cell biology and computing. It equips you to look into how life and nature work, and to put what you find to use. There is a great deal happening in genomics in particular. A postgraduate degree in biotechnology is one of the main routes open to graduates of the subjects listed below, and it leads to work in diagnostic laboratories, fermentation industries, food processing, the research and development arms of pharmaceutical companies, agricultural biotechnology and many other places where life science expertise is needed.

03

Eligibility

B.Sc Degree with minimum 50% marks in aggregate (45% marks in case of SC/ST candidate) of all the three optional.

The candidate should have studied Chemistry or Biochemistry compulsorily as an optional subject along with at least on of the following optional subjects:

Microbiology, biotechnology, botany, applied botany, zoology, applied zoology, industrial microbiology, environmental science, genetics, applied genetics, sericulture, home science, life science, biological science, agricultural science, biochemistry, dairy sciences, horticulture, forestry and fisheries.

For Eligibility average of all the optional to be considered. Bit in case of Honours students in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Botany, Zoology or Biology where the “Class” is decided on the basic of Honours subjects only, marks on other Optional may not be calculated for this purpose.

04

Duration

M.Sc runs for two years.
